I turned my love for Vienna into my career.

How does someone actually become a tour guide? For me it started in childhood. My grandfather owns what feels like more books than any mid-sized library. And on weekends we regularly visited one of Vienna’s many museums. The fascination for art and history was always there. It just had to wait a little.

Professionally I ended up in the startup world for a few years first. It was a great time, but eventually I realised my real passion lay elsewhere. On cobblestones, somewhere between imperial splendour and hidden courtyards. That is where the great stories are hiding.

So I took on the one-year training programme to become an Austria tour guide, including a three-part state examination that is, frankly, as demanding as Vienna is large. But when you are this passionate about a city, there are no real obstacles. And today this is genuinely my job.

And it was the best trade of my life. Every day I meet fascinating people from all over the world on my Vienna tours and get to share my absolute favourite city with them. So let me share it with you too.
